New restaurant open.
There’s a new restaurant in downtown Roanoke. Horizon Bar and Grill opened this month with a menu boasting a southwestern flair on fine dining. They are located in Wertz’ old location at 215 Market Street. Here’s a look at some of their offerings.

Steak Nigeri - flank steak over plantains

Lamb Shanks over refried beans

Sweet Potato Enchiladas over black beans
If you’ve had a chance to try out their fare, please let us know what you thought!

I went there with a group from work for lunch on their opening day. I know the first day a restaurant is open isn’t usually the best time to go, and we were a fairly large group but the service was abysmally slow (it took 2 hours from sitting down to getting our checks). Everyone was fairly iffy on the food too. I enjoyed the sandwich I had, but my fries were soggy and cold (probably related to how long it took it to get served). I’ll be going back again next week with another work lunch so hopefully they will have the kinks worked out and the food will come out quicker. I love it when new restaurants open in Roanoke so I really hope they do well next time. I’d hate for them to be another Blue 5.
