noteworthy upcoming events.

The Square Society’s “Black & White Bals Masqués” is this coming Saturday, January 19th at the Corinthian Ballroom in downtown Roanoke from 8pm to 12pm. Online sales for this event close at noon tomorrow. You can also purchase tickets, if there are any left, from Amrhein’s or Dance Etc. in Vinton. The dress is black and/or white cocktail attire, black tie optional, mask required. More information.

Wednesday, January 23rd Misery opens at the Mill Mountain Theater and runs through February 10th. This play is based on the novel by Stephen King and is adapted by Simon Moore. This is definitely a must see. I’ll probably actually go for this one and I’m not the biggest fan of plays. Visit MillMountain.org for ticket information.

Valentine’s Day weekend you can look forward to the Gala Fantasy Opera which consists of a collection of operatic arias, ensembles, choruses, and orchestral highlights. The event is being held at the Jefferson Center on Saturday, February 16th at 8pm. If you’d like to attend you can also make reservations with your ticket purchase for dinner beforehand at the Shenandoah Club. Dinner starts at 5:30. Tickets for dinner are $75 per person and include open bar as well as a reception to follow the opera. Oh, and I’ll be attending. ;) (See what I’ll be wearing.) It’ll be my first opera.
