’tis the season.

Last Tuesday was the “Greening of the Market.” Bill Carder, the new Executive Director for DRI took time out from the office to join in the occasion. Bill helped a number of volunteers to cut and hang pine branches on all of the market tables. The greenery was then set off by big, red bows. The end result is quite festive and will stay in place through Christmas for everyone to enjoy.

Speaking of Christmas, Dickens of a Christmas is just a weekend away. This annual event takes place on the first three Fridays of December from 6pm to 10pm. This year those dates fall on December 7th, 14th, and 21st. December 7th starts off the event with a Christmas parade followed by a pet contest and outdoor holiday movie on subsequent Fridays. There will also be shopping, carriage rides, roasted chestnuts, a kid zone, carolers, and much more. Be sure to bring the family for this wonderful celebration filled with the spirit of Christmas.

I have seen the decorated market and it looks beautiful. You all did a wonderful job. Some of the wreaths and boughs for sale down there are also lovely.
Speaking of Christmas, you should check out all the original Christmas carols that were entered in our contest at The Roanoke Times. Who knew we had so many talented musicians in this part of Virginia? It’s difficult to vote for just one. But give it a try at http://www.roanoke.com — click on Santa!
Rebecca, thanks for mentioning my blog and for the comment about Alejandro’s. I can’t wait to try it myself.

    Rebecca:

Dickens is traditionally the FIRST three Fridays in December and I believe that is true this year too.

I changed it. I originally listed it as the first three Fridays, but then I kept thinking this Friday was December 1st for some reason. Obviously December 1st is on Saturday. My bad.
