goodbye.

Sadly the current Market Manager, Hope Hollingsworth, is resigning from her position and will no longer be with us on the Roanoke City Market as of August 25th. While she hopes to find herself back on the Market eventually as a vendor, her future plans now include managing a decorating store where she can express her creativity and work with fabrics again. For those who didn’t know, Hope originally started out with said decorating store prior to working for DRI, and she also designed her own clothing which she sold on the Market. If you see Hope be sure to wish her luck. I know I’ll miss her!

lemon balm.

Lemon Balm is a wonderfully easy herb to grow, plus it tastes great! It actually comes up every year, and while mine is in the poorest and driest of dirt, it still manages to hang in there. While this may have something to do with its being in the mint family, I’ve never had a problem with my lemon balm trying to take over like peppermint and spearmint tend to do. Perfect in beverages, teas, desserts, salads, and as a seasoning for meats and fish, lemon balm is extremely versatile. Check out the article, Long Live Lemon Balm: Herb of the Year 2007, for more information on this fabulous herb that not only adds flavor to food, but helps with nightmares, eczema, nausea, headaches, and a slew of other everyday issues. If you don’t have a patch of lemon balm growing in your garden yet, bulk organic lemon balm is available for purchase from Mountain Rose Herbs. They also sell Lemon Balm Essential Oil for your aromatherapeutic needs. For live plants, check with Walter’s Greenhouse on the Roanoke City Market in the spring.
